Last year, the highly anticipated updated version of the renowned Resident Evil series was released in the spring. The remake of Resident Evil 4, featuring enhanced graphics, locations, mechanics, and an improved story, made its debut on PC and current consoles in March 2023. This release marked a significant milestone for Capcom, as it became their most successful launch of the year, with 6 million copies sold. Following this success, the extended edition of the game, Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition, was also introduced earlier this year, signaling the conclusion of ongoing support for the game by the developers.
During a recent interview with representatives of Capcom by the Japanese publication 4Gamer, the company reaffirmed the game’s achievements, such as the impressive sales figures and critical acclaim. However, it was during this discussion that Capcom effectively announced their decision to cease further support for the remake.
Throughout the year, the Resident Evil 4 remake received multiple content updates, including the addition of a new story segment titled “Separate Ways,” featuring Ada Wong as the central character. While Capcom expressed satisfaction with the player engagement, they revealed that there are no plans for additional DLC or expansions. Instead, the developers are shifting their focus towards new projects, reassigning the main team of creators to other games. A dedicated team will remain responsible for monitoring the status of Resident Evil 4 and issuing patches as needed.
