Hollywood’s film ⁣and television⁢ screenwriters have returned ‍to work following ​a tentative agreement reached between their union, the Writers⁢ Guild of America, and entertainment companies. The strike, which began on May 2nd, has now ended. The agreement includes bonuses for writers based on streaming service viewership and ensures that ⁤artificial intelligence cannot be used to write or rewrite⁣ literary material or serve⁢ as a source. The hope is that this deal will‍ also encourage actors to end their strike, which⁢ has already caused delays in the release of several‌ movies scheduled ​for next year, including a Lord of the⁣ Rings​ prequel.

The⁤ Federal Trade Commission in the United States has filed a lawsuit against ‍ Amazon, ‍accusing the online retailer of⁢ employing “unfair strategies to illegally maintain its​ monopoly power.” The ‍FTC⁢ alleges that Amazon ⁤achieves this by suppressing sellers on its platform who offer cheaper ‍products ⁢elsewhere and by prioritizing paid advertisements over relevant search results, among other tactics. ‌Amazon has responded by calling ⁤the lawsuit “misguided” and‍ a “fundamental misunderstanding of retail.”

Meanwhile, Amazon ‍has made a significant investment in⁤ Anthropic, an AI startup, ‍amounting to up to $4 billion. ⁤Additionally,​ Amazon has announced plans‍ to introduce advertisements​ to its⁤ Prime Video ⁣content starting next year. Similar to other streaming ‍services, ‍users ⁣will ‌have the ​option to subscribe to an⁢ ad-free plan ⁢at a ⁤higher ⁤cost.
