Relatives of Israeli hostages held in Gaza expressed relief as the Israeli security cabinet approved a cease-fire agreement, bringing them closer to reuniting with their loved ones. However, there is still uncertainty about whether Israel and Hamas will uphold the deal beyond its initial phase.
“It’s a mix of emotions, but we have been waiting for this moment,” said Daniel Lifshitz, whose grandfather Oded is one of the hostages in Gaza.
Lifshitz mentioned that the involvement of President-elect Donald J. Trump and his Middle East envoy gave him hope even before the cabinet’s approval. Now, he emphasized the importance of ensuring both parties stick to the agreement and release all hostages.
“I have faith in Trump and his team to see this through,” Lifshitz added.
Although Lifshitz’s grandfather is set to be released initially, there is no information on his well-being or current status.
“Preparing for both celebration and mourning simultaneously is challenging,” Lifshitz expressed in an interview.
