Over 500 talented individuals, including artists, designers, engineers, and QA testers, have joined forces to create the World of Warcraft Gamemakers Guild under the Communications Workers of America (CWA).
This move comes at a crucial time in the industry, with layoffs and studio closures becoming all too common. Following in the footsteps of Bethesda Game Studios, known for the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series, who recently established their union with the assistance of CWA, this unionization marks a significant step towards better pay, benefits, and job security for game developers.
Eric Lanham, a test analyst and member of the Wow Gamemakers Guild, expressed his optimism for the future, stating, “What we’ve achieved at World of Warcraft is just the beginning. Together, we are on a mission to ensure a brighter and more secure future through the power of a strong union.”
