Emergency crews swiftly responded to the scene at Brucefield industrial estate near Livingston, deploying nine fire engines to combat the blaze. Motorists are urged to steer clear of the area as efforts continue to bring the situation under control.
Social media images captured a towering column of smoke emanating from the site, drawing attention from onlookers as far as Fife. West Lothian council issued a warning online advising people to avoid the vicinity due to ongoing firefighting operations.
The Scottish fire and rescue service (SFRS) reported that they were alerted about the fire just after 1pm on Saturday. A spokesperson confirmed that multiple units were dispatched along with specialized resources to tackle the inferno engulfing a large factory and adjacent structures.
As night fell, SFRS disclosed that several appliances remained at the scene including pumping vehicles, height apparatuses, and a water carrier. The firefighting efforts are expected to continue for an extended period as crews work tirelessly towards full extinguishment.
