Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to set new records on Steam after its successful launch: the latest peak number of concurrent players surpasses all other CRPG and turn-based games by a large margin.
The highly anticipated role-playing game from Larian Studios exited early access last week and immediately climbed the charts on Steam, becoming the second-largest release of 2023 after Hogwarts Legacy. Following this, the game surpassed Skyrim and Fallout 4 in the list of the most noteworthy RPG launches on Steam, with a peak number of concurrent players reaching 814,666, which is almost twice as much as on launch day.
As noted on Reddit, Baldur’s Gate 3 significantly exceeds the peak number of concurrent players of the next turn-based game, Dota Underlords – 202,334, despite the fact that the game is more similar to an autobattler. In the CRPG category, the next game with the highest peak player count is Divinity Original Sin 2 – 93,701, which is quite decent but still hundreds of thousands less than Baldur’s Gate 3.
If we disregard the significant caveat that Steam has grown exponentially in recent years, and therefore new games will attract more players, Baldur’s Gate 3 can confidently be called a resounding success on PC, and is likely to become a big hit on PS5 when it releases there on September 6.
