Apple and startup near settlement in trade secret theft lawsuit

Apple has reportedly reached a potential settlement with Rivos, ⁣a startup based‍ in Mountain View that it accused of luring its employees and stealing ‍its trade secrets in 2022. According to documents ⁣filed by the companies and seen by Bloomberg and Reuters, ⁣they have informed the US ⁤District Court for the Northern District of California that they have‌ entered into an agreement that could potentially resolve the case. As part of the deal, Apple would be allowed to conduct a forensic examination of Rivos’ systems and ⁤activities.

Apple’s lawsuit against ⁤Rivos alleged that the startup orchestrated a “coordinated campaign” to⁢ recruit employees from its chip design division. Additionally, Apple claimed that Rivos instructed the employees it hired to pilfer presentations and other confidential information related to unreleased iPhone chip designs, which were worth billions of dollars in development. In response, Rivos filed a ⁣countersuit against‌ Apple last year, accusing ⁤the tech giant of impeding⁤ employees’ ability to seek employment elsewhere and stifling the growth of emerging startups through anticompetitive practices.
