Android phones can now share screens on WhatsApp through a new testing feature.

WhatsApp is introducing a new screen sharing feature that takes inspiration from work-centric video call platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. According to WABetaInfo, the messaging app is currently rolling out the feature, which allows users to record and display the contents of their screen to whoever is on the other end of the video call.

The feature is represented by an icon of a phone with an arrow pointing out of it, which sits alongside other tools like switching cameras, muting, and disabling video at the bottom of WhatsApp calls. Once the user clicks the new button, a prompt appears asking if they want to “Start recording or casting with WhatsApp?” alongside a disclaimer that the company will have access to any passwords, photos, or payment details displayed. If the user is okay with this, they can click “Start now” and stop sharing their screen at any time during the call.

Currently, screen sharing is only available to select Android beta testers, but it should roll out to more users in the future.
