Alphabet’s Moonshot Labs Face Job Cuts: The Morning After

Shortly after Alphabet and Google CEO Sudar ‌Pichai warned of potential job attrition, the company is downsizing its⁣ staff at its moonshot lab. Alphabet is also reorganizing X (not⁣ to be confused with the ‌former Twitter) to facilitate the launch of projects with ⁣financial support from external investors.

Astro Teller, the head of X division, informed employees in a memo that the company is “expanding our approach to focus on launching more projects as ⁣independent companies⁤ funded through market-based capital.”

X has endeavored to address global challenges such as climate change,⁣ the future of the internet, and cybersecurity, but its spinoff businesses have not consistently succeeded. The company aims ‍to redirect ambitious ideas ⁣into those with potential.
