Blue Origin, the space company founded by Jeff Bezos, has announced that its New Shepard rocket will finally take flight again after being grounded by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for over a year. The launch is scheduled for Monday, December 18 at the company’s West Texas facility, with the launch window opening at 9:30AM ET.
Although this flight will not have a crew on board, it will carry science and research payloads, as well as 38,000 student postcards stamped “Flown to Space!” from the Club for the Future program. The entire launch will be livestreamed on Blue Origin’s website, starting 20 minutes before takeoff.
Blue Origin’s reusable suborbital rocket has successfully completed both crewed and payload missions in the past, including a flight with Jeff Bezos on board in 2021, marking the company’s entry into human spaceflight.
