After more than a year of being grounded, Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket is set to return to flight tomorrow


Blue Origin, ‍the ​space company founded by Jeff Bezos, has announced ‍that its New Shepard rocket will finally take flight again after being grounded by‌ the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for over a​ year. The launch is ⁣scheduled for Monday, ‍December ​18 ⁢at the company’s West Texas facility, with the launch window opening at ⁤9:30AM ET.

Although this flight will not have a ⁤crew on board, it will ⁤carry science and research payloads, as well​ as 38,000 student postcards stamped “Flown to Space!” from the Club for the Future program. The entire launch will be livestreamed on Blue Origin’s website, starting 20 minutes⁤ before takeoff.

Blue⁢ Origin’s reusable suborbital⁢ rocket has successfully completed both crewed⁣ and payload missions in the past, including a‌ flight with Jeff Bezos on board in 2021, marking the company’s entry into human spaceflight. ‍Out of its ⁢24 flights, six have included human crew members.
