An ex-employee of‌ the tech giant ‍X in Ireland has been⁢ awarded €550000 ($600,000) in an unfair dismissal case after⁤ allegedly being fired for not responding to an email from Elon Musk urging staff to⁣ be “extremely hardcore.”

Gary Rooney, a‍ former director at X’s European headquarters in Dublin, was let go from his⁢ procurement role, as reported by Bloomberg.

Following his takeover of Twitter⁣ in 2022, Musk sent a message to employees emphasizing the need for exceptional performance and long hours ‍to‍ build a new Twitter 2.0. Those who did not agree were offered a severance package.

Rooney, who did not click yes in response to Musk’s email, later⁢ received ⁢a message from ⁤the company acknowledging his resignation, despite his ‌denial of resigning.

The ‌Workplace Relations ⁣Commission adjudicator deemed Musk’s 24-hour ultimatum unreasonable and stated that Rooney’s personal messages⁣ were irrelevant ⁣to the termination of his employment.
