This decrease in pupil size, up to 0.4 millimeters per decade, can impact how well individuals see in varying light conditions. The findings, published in Royal Society Open Science on June 19, highlight the significant impact of age on pupil size, as explained by neuroscientist Manuel Spitschan from the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tubingen, Germany. The smaller pupil size in older individuals results in less light entering the eye, making it more challenging to see in dim lighting.
