LAS VEGAS — Walmart is seeking fresh strategies to entice sellers to its third-party marketplace, as it strives to boost online sales and narrow the gap with rival Amazon.
On Wednesday, the retail giant launched its inaugural Walmart Marketplace Seller Summit, a two-day invitation-only event featuring how-to sessions that attracted over 1,500 individuals from businesses selling clothing, party supplies, jewelry, and more on Walmart’s website. The event will feature prominent Walmart leaders, including CEO Doug McMillon.
The company also announced new initiatives to attract and retain sellers. Starting early next year, its marketplace will expand to Chile, becoming the first country outside of North America to be included.
