At the age of 9, Oluwatoyin Asojo began volunteering at an orphanage in Nigeria, where she witnessed the impact of diseases on children. This experience fueled her passion for helping those less fortunate and led her to a career focused on combating diseases that affect the world’s poorest regions. Asojo’s expertise lies in studying protein structures associated with diseases such as malaria, HIV, leishmaniasis, and schistosomiasis. She has also played a crucial role in developing vaccines to prevent hookworm, a parasite she encountered during her time at the orphanage. In addition to her scientific work, Asojo has dedicated herself to mentoring students from underrepresented communities in science. Her commitment to addressing global health challenges has led her to her current role as the associate director of strategic initiatives at Dartmouth Cancer Center.
