Unveiling Cutting-Edge AI Technology for Uncovering Groundbreaking ‘Metamaterials’ with Extraordinary Characteristics

An AI tool⁣ developed by‍ researchers ‍from TU Delft can identify and create fabrication-ready and durable metamaterials, which ⁣are capable of concealing objects in plain sight and mimicking bone⁤ tissue. This breakthrough paves the way for the development of devices with unprecedented functionalities. The findings have been⁢ published in ⁢Advanced Materials.

Professor Amir Zadpoor of the Department of Biomechanical Engineering explains that their approach ⁢involves engineering materials with desired properties, resulting in the creation of metamaterials that are⁤ a hybrid of structure and material.

The material discovery process involves solving an “inverse problem” to find the geometry that produces the desired properties.⁤ To address this challenge, TU Delft researchers have developed deep-learning models that ‍can solve these inverse problems.

Dr. Helda Pahlavani, the first author, highlights the limitations of previous solutions ⁢to inverse problems and emphasizes the importance of their AI tool in overcoming these challenges.
