Unlike a simple shape where any closed path can be shrunk to a point, the complex topology of a doughnut presents a different scenario. A loop encircling the doughnut’s hole cannot be easily squished due to the limitations imposed by the hole itself. While the universe is commonly thought to have a trivial topology, researchers are intrigued by the possibility of it being different.
