The Potential Threat of American Bullfrogs to Endangered Frogs in Brazil

Researchers have discovered American bullfrog DNA near the habitat of ⁤the critically‌ endangered Pithecopus rusticus tree frog in Brazil. These small, brightly ‍colored frogs were first found in 2009 and have only been⁣ seen in one location. With their habitat⁤ at risk, finding ⁤additional populations is crucial for conservation efforts. Despite extensive field surveys, no other populations have been found. To try a different approach, scientists collected⁣ water samples in the Wildlife Refuge of‍ Campos⁢ de Palmas, about 2 kilometers from the original discovery site. The ‍results suggest that this refuge could be a suitable‌ location for another ⁢population,⁣ but ⁤it is separated from the known population by a‍ highway.
