What is Venus?

Venus is the second planet from our Sun and it is the hottest planet in our solar system. Known for its thick, toxic atmosphere, the planet’s surface temperature can reach up to 471 °C. The planet is named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty, Venus.

Possibility of Life on Venus

For a long time, Venus has been thought to be uninhabitable due to its harsh environment. However, recent studies have shown that there may be a possibility of life on Venus.

The clouds on Venus contain sulfuric acid and other chemicals that would normally be toxic to life as we know it. But scientists have suggested that there may be microbial life forms that could survive in these extreme conditions.

Additionally, the possibility of underground oceans on Venus has also been raised as a potential environment for life.

New Discovery of Phosphine on Venus

In September 2020, scientists announced the discovery of phosphine gas in the atmosphere of Venus. This was a significant discovery as phosphine is often a sign of microbial life. However, the discovery is not conclusive proof of life on Venus and further investigation is needed.

Further studies will need to be conducted to confirm if the presence of phosphine is indeed due to microbial life or if it has some other explanation.
