Sweat Protein: Nature’s Shield Against Lyme Disease

MIT immunologist Michal Tal and her team identified three candidate‌ genes that could make some individuals more susceptible to⁤ Lyme disease. These genes produce immune proteins that help ​the body fight off ​foreign invaders, as well as a previously ‌unknown protein ⁣called SCGB1D2 ⁤found in sweat glands. This protein may​ offer protection against ticks, highlighting the‌ importance of sweating as a defense mechanism.
