In a surprising turn of events, Carlos Tavares has stepped down as CEO of Stellantis due to growing differences with the board of directors.
The world’s fourth-largest automaker confirmed Tavares’ resignation was accepted by the board and is effective immediately.
Stellantis, known for its Jeep brand, is actively searching for a new CEO and aims to finalize the selection by the first half of next year. In the meantime, an interim executive committee led by chairman John Elkann will be put in place.
