Three individuals from Stavropol Krai have been sentenced to 14-16 years of strict regime imprisonment in a colony following a ruling by the Southern District Court in Rostov-on-Don.
Kairbek Bakiev, Ilkhan Kanmurzaev, and Eldar Mashaev were found guilty of taking part in an assault on the Botlikh District of Dagestan in 1999 as members of Shamil Basayev and Khattab’s groups. They faced charges of armed rebellion, banditry, and attacking military personnel. The Investigative Committee’s report did not specify their exact roles in the attack.
Law enforcement authorities stated that the accused joined Shamil Basayev and Khattab’s group in the summer of 1999 and participated in an attack on Russian military forces in the Botlikh District of Dagestan in August of the same year. This resulted in the deaths of 33 military personnel and injuries to 34 others.
Bakiev and Kanmurzaev were apprehended in 2021 with the assistance of FSB, MVD, and Rosgvardiya forces.
