SpaceX launched four people to the International Space Station from Florida as Elon Musk’s company begins the final of the original six missions it was awarded by NASA.
Known as Crew-6, the mission for NASA will bring the group up to the space station for a six-month stay in orbit. The mission is SpaceX’s sixth operational crew launch for NASA to date and the company’s ninth human spaceflight to date.
“If you enjoyed your ride, please don’t forget to give us five stars,” SpaceX mission control called out after the capsule reached orbit.
“That was fantastic, thank you,” Crew-6 commander Stephen Bowen responded.

On Monday, April 5, 2021, SpaceX launched one of its most important space missions ever – NASA’s Crew-6 mission. This mission, officially known as “Resilience”, launched from the historic Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. On board were four astronauts – Commander Shane Kimbrough and Pilot Megan McArthur from NASA and Flight Engineers Akihiko Hoshide and Thomas Pesquet from the European Space Agency.
The mission’s objectives range from continuing the research of low Earth orbit to bringing science experiments from around the world to the space station. This mission marks the first time that SpaceX, in partnership with NASA, has launched a multi-member crew on a mission to the International Space Station (ISS). It’s also the second time SpaceX has done this for NASA, following their launch of Crew-1 in November of 2020.
The Crew-6 launch marks the beginning of a new era in space exploration, as this is the start of a fully operational human spaceflight program that will continue through the foreseeable future. The mission will also have a special focus on a variety of research projects such as, advanced biotechnology, engineering, and physical science experiments. The Crew-6 mission will provide a glimpse into the future of Mars exploration and deep-space missions.
