Traditional web browsers may seem dull, but a wave of change is on the horizon. Google Chrome dominates the scene, while technologies like HTML and JavaScript have remained stagnant for years. Browser updates typically focus on bug fixes rather than innovative features.
However, the landscape is about to shift towards something more captivating.
Generative AI is poised to revolutionize every web browser. Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and other browsers are embracing AI to transform our web experience. Ritu Jyoti, group vice president for AI infrastructure at IDC, explains that AI will streamline web articles and enhance browsing efficiency.
“The goal is to reimagine web search, eliminating the need to open multiple browser tabs and meticulously sift through each one for information,” she elaborated.
Historically, web content has been accessed by sifting through lists of links. Now, genAI-powered chatbots and virtual agents can comprehend natural language queries and provide direct responses. These AI assistants can assist with writing, summarizing web pages, language translation, and more.
New advancements in chip technology are enabling AI processing on personal computers.
These breakthroughs are made possible by chip manufacturers like Intel, AMD, Apple, and Qualcomm. They have introduced a new wave of processors equipped with neural network coprocessors for desktops, laptops, and mobile devices. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X line of processors is even venturing into the desktop/client market.
