During a summit of the BRICS bloc in Kazan, Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised US presidential candidate Donald Trump’s commitment to resolving the Ukraine conflict as genuine.
Putin emphasized that Moscow cannot be defeated on the battlefield and insisted that any peace agreement must acknowledge Russia’s control over parts of Ukrainian territory.
At the summit, leaders urged for an end to the fighting in Ukraine, with Trump expressing doubts about US aid to Ukraine and proposing a swift resolution if elected.
Putin appreciated Trump’s efforts to bring peace to Ukraine and stated his openness to peace initiatives from BRICS leaders while emphasizing the importance of considering “realities on the ground.”

The three-day BRICS summit was attended by representatives from 36 countries, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscoring a shift away from US-led isolation efforts against Russia.
Putin welcomed mediation offers but stressed that any peace deal must address the current situation in Ukrainian territories controlled by Russian forces.
Insisting on negotiations based on existing conditions, Putin has previously demanded Kyiv withdraw its troops before ceasefire talks can proceed.
