Preparing for the Future: How Organizations Can Overcome the Looming Tech Skills Crisis

The scarcity of‍ IT skills is hindering organizations from successfully implementing⁣ digital projects‌ and embracing cutting-edge technologies like generative artificial intelligence (genAI), impacting⁣ their financial performance in⁤ various ways.

According to a ‌recent survey by IDC Research involving over 800‌ IT leaders in ⁢North America, nearly two-thirds ‍reported that skill shortages have⁤ led‌ to missed revenue targets, ⁢quality issues, and⁢ decreased customer satisfaction.

Projections from ⁣IDC suggest ‍that by 2026, over 90% of global ⁤organizations will ⁣face ⁤the repercussions of the IT‍ skills crisis, ‌resulting in approximately $5.5 trillion in losses due to delays in product⁣ launches,⁢ reduced competitiveness, and loss of business.

More than‌ 60%⁣ of the surveyed IT leaders ‍stated that skill shortages have caused delays in their digital transformation‍ initiatives, with most projects being set back by an average of three to ten ‌months.

While AI skills⁤ are ⁢currently the most sought-after by enterprises, IT Operations skills closely follow. Cloud-related skills like architecture, data management, storage, and software ⁢development ‍are also among the top ten skills in demand, as ⁤per the survey respondents.
