According to medical sources, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of at least 63 Palestinians, with Gaza’s Government Media Office reporting a higher toll of 71 casualties. Among the victims were the head of the enclave’s police force and his deputy, following 34 air strikes by Israeli military forces within a day.
The attacks targeted various areas in Gaza, including al-Mawasi and Jabalia refugee camp. The violence has also impacted Gaza City’s neighborhoods and az-Zawayda town in central Gaza.
UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini condemned Israel’s deadly strike on al-Mawasi displacement camp as a call to end the ongoing conflict. He emphasized the urgent need for peace as another year begins.
