OpenAI Takes Action Against Developer for ChatGPT Bot Impersonating a Presidential Candidate


OpenAI has taken ‍action against⁢ the developer of Dean.Bot, a​ ChatGPT-powered bot⁤ created to mimic Democratic presidential candidate Dean Phillips in support of his campaign, as reported by The Washington Post. The⁢ chatbot was ⁢developed by AI ⁢startup ⁣Delphi for the super PAC We Deserve⁤ Better, which is a⁤ supporter of Phillips.

Dean.Bot did ⁢not completely pretend to be Phillips‌ himself; a disclaimer ⁤describing the chatbot’s nature⁤ was displayed to website visitors before interacting with Dean.Bot. However, this type ‌of usage directly violates‌ OpenAI’s policies. A company spokesperson confirmed ​the developer’s suspension ⁤in a statement to the Post. This action comes shortly after OpenAI’s publication‍ of a detailed‍ blog post outlining the steps⁢ it ​is taking to prevent the misuse of its ​technology in the⁤ lead-up to the 2024 ‍elections, specifically mentioning “chatbots impersonating candidates” as ⁢an example of prohibited ⁤behavior.
