Thousands of individuals have united throughout Germany to demonstrate against a far-right political party and its anti-migrant stance.
On Saturday, people protested in various cities and small towns, using signs to mock the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party with messages like “Facism is not an alternative”, as reported by German media.
The protests were sparked by outrage over revelations that AfD members had met with far-right activists to discuss mass deportation plans for foreigners.
Under the banner “Defend democracy – Frankfurt against the AfD”, approximately 35,000 people marched in Germany’s financial hub, according to police.
In the northern city of Hanover, a similar number of protesters, some carrying posters reading “Nazis out”, made their voices heard.
Additional demonstrations took place in cities such as Braunschweig, Erfurt, and Kassel, as well as numerous smaller towns, reflecting widespread mobilization over the past week. In Hamburg, Germany’s second-largest city, around 50,000 people demonstrated on Friday, according to police.
