Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of META, recently discussed the potential for hundreds of millions of people to wear AR glasses. This conversation took place at the SIGGRAPH conference with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.
My belief aligns with Zuckerberg’s vision, as I have also made similar forecasts in this field over the past few years. I anticipate that AR glasses, initially without and later with holographic images on the lenses, will revolutionize consumer technology.
Zuckerberg’s strategy for the category resonates with me. He emphasized the importance of focusing on creating a visually appealing form factor while incorporating cutting-edge technology.
This approach differs from that of many AR glasses manufacturers like TCL RayNeo X2, Vuzix Ultralite, Rokid Max, and XREAL Air. These companies prioritize delivering the best visual experience at an affordable price, often compromising on aesthetics. However, this trade-off hinders widespread adoption.
The end product may offer excellent functionality but lacks the style that consumers desire in wearable tech.
Google’s experience with Google Glass serves as a cautionary tale, highlighting the significance of social acceptance in the success of AR glasses.
