The number of small boat arrivals has surged to over 20,000 since Keir Starmer assumed office, attributed by the Home Office to a record number of calm autumn days in the Channel.
During a 31-day period spanning October to November, there were more “red days” than ever before, indicating favorable weather conditions for crossings. This led to 6,288 individuals making the journey compared to just 768 during the same timeframe last year.
This data will be utilized by Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to address the recent spike in small boat crossings by asylum seekers.
Following a two-week hiatus due to inclement weather, two dinghies arrived in UK waters carrying a total of 122 people. This brought the total arrivals since July 4th to 20,110.
Cooper is set to present an update on her recent agreement with Iraq regarding joint efforts against human trafficking and increasing deportations of rejected applicants.
Statistics from October 11th to November 10th show that most days were classified as “red”, contrasting sharply with previous years. The Conservative government’s departure saw a significant increase in small boat arrivals leading up to the election.
