The Israeli military has issued new evacuation orders in southern Gaza following a deadly airstrike on a school-turned-shelter in the north that resulted in the deaths of over 100 Palestinians, as reported by local health authorities.
Early on Sunday, hundreds of families left their homes and shelters in Khan Younis, carrying their belongings, in search of safer grounds.
Israel has repeatedly instructed mass evacuations as its troops revisit severely damaged areas where they had previously engaged with Palestinian fighters. The majority of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have been displaced during the 10-month conflict, often forced to move multiple times.
Hundreds of thousands have crowded into makeshift tent camps with limited public services or have taken refuge in schools like the one targeted in Gaza City on Saturday. Palestinians express feeling unsafe in any part of the besieged territory.
The recent evacuation directives affect areas in Khan Younis, including a portion of an Israeli-designated humanitarian zone.
