Intel has just announced that the highly anticipated Lunar Lake chips will be released this autumn for Copilot+ AI PCs. The technical specifications were finally revealed at Computex, showcasing an impressive 48 TOPs (tera operations per second) of AI performance due to an enhanced neural processing unit (NPU). This is a significant improvement from Intel’s previous Meteor Lake chips, which only had a 10 TOPS NPU. In comparison, AMD introduced their Ryzen AI 300 chips with 50 TOPS NPUs just yesterday. The competition in the AI sector is heating up.
Intel will need to step up their game in the AI PC market as AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 chips are set to launch in July, along with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus. The exact release date for Lunar Lake systems this autumn is still unknown. However, for Intel enthusiasts, Lunar Lake promises to be a game-changer. It will feature a new Xe2 GPU that offers 80% faster gaming performance than its predecessor, as well as an AI accelerator with an additional 67 TOPS of power.
