PayPal is now offering passkey logins to Android users in the US, as long as they access the website through the Chrome browser. The payment processor initially introduced passkey logins for Apple devices running macOS Ventura and iPadOS16 in October of last year. At the time, Google had not yet released stable passkey support for Android and Chrome, but PayPal promised to make the password alternative available to other platforms and countries in the future.
Passkeys were rolled out to stable Chrome by December of last year. Now, PayPal is fulfilling its promise, albeit with some limitations. The login option is not yet available for the payment processor’s Android app, and users can only activate it if they are using Chrome on a device running Android 9.
