Project Apollo ended this week. The final moon males … returned to Earth … and splashed down on a goal within the Pacific Dec. 19.… All of the floor and orbital devices look like working except the floor gravimeter.… The geology investigation group summed it up this fashion: “Apollo 17 will be remembered as the most scientifically sophisticated, not as the last, manned lunar landing.”

The Apollo missions proceed including to our data of the moon and Earth. Scientists have used lunar soil samples collected by Apollo astronauts to point out that rising crops on the moon, whereas difficult, could also be potential (SN: 7/2/22, p. 4). In May, NASA researchers started scrutinizing untouched lunar rock and soil samples from the Apollo 17 mission for hints of previous moon circumstances and the chemical compounds essential for all times. Then in November, a brand new period of moon missions dawned with the launch of NASA’s Artemis I mission. NASA hopes to land people on the moon in 2025 to choose up the place Apollo 17 astronauts left off.
