In response to the increasing presence of Covid-19 in the United States this summer, the Biden administration announced that it will once again provide free at-home Covid-19 tests to American households starting in late September.
Americans will have the opportunity to request four complimentary tests through COVIDtests.gov, as confirmed by administration officials during a recent briefing. These tests are designed to identify the current Covid variants, many of which are linked to the highly transmissible omicron variant JN.1.
“By offering these tests, we aim to ensure the safety of families and their loved ones during the upcoming fall and winter seasons,” stated Dawn O’Connell, an assistant secretary at the Health and Human Services Department, during the briefing. “This marks the seventh occasion in the past three years that the Biden-Harris administration has made free over-the-counter Covid-19 tests available to families through the government.”
