Saken Mamash, a former advisor at the Kazakhstan embassy in the UAE, has been sentenced to 15 days for assaulting his wife’s sister. The Specialized Inter-District Court on Administrative Offenses in Astana stated that this is the maximum penalty for the offense of causing minor harm to health intentionally.
According to The Insider, Karina Mamash revealed in early May to the “NeMolchi.kz” foundation that she had been a victim of domestic violence by her husband for a decade. Following her disclosure, Mamash was relieved of her duties.
On May 9, the diplomat was terminated from his position, and legal action was initiated against him.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs facilitated the return of Karina Mamash and the children of the ex-diplomat to Kazakhstan. Aibek Smadiyarov, the ministry’s spokesperson, assured the public that they are providing the woman with extensive support.
Upon her return, Karina Mamash disclosed that her husband’s relatives were aware of the abuse. Furthermore, in a podcast called “Jiza,” she mentioned that the consulate staff in the UAE were reluctant to assist her in seeking medical attention after the assaults. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan later refuted her claims of not receiving medical aid, as reported by the local publication “Kursiv.”
