EU Launches Investigation into Child Protection Measures on Leading Porn Platforms

The European Union has⁤ issued a directive to three adult websites,⁢ urging⁤ them to outline their efforts in safeguarding children online and preventing the dissemination of illicit content. As of April, ‌Pornhub, Stripchat, and XVideos are subject to more stringent regulations under the EU’s content moderation law, aimed ⁤at safeguarding online users, particularly minors. The European Commission has requested details on the measures taken by‌ these platforms to assess and mitigate risks related to protecting⁤ minors online. Additionally, they are required to demonstrate how they combat gender-based violence and verify the age of their users. Compliance with the Digital Services Act (DSA) is also a key focus, with the companies expected ⁣to have dedicated internal teams to ensure adherence to ‌the law. These platforms have until July 4 to provide the necessary information. Identified as “very large” platforms in the EU, alongside Facebook, ⁢TikTok, and X, they face⁤ stricter rules under the DSA, including prompt removal of harmful ⁣content. While the request for information does not imply immediate action, it marks the initial step ⁤towards a potential investigation. Violations of the DSA could result in fines of up to six‍ percent of a platform’s global turnover or even a ban in severe cases. Stay updated with the latest news from IBTimes.
