Playing Summit, a $6 mountain climbing platformer for Playdate, unexpectedly brought tears to my eyes. While it’s easy to draw comparisons to Celeste in terms of difficulty, the emotional impact caught me off guard. After an hour and 34 minutes, along with 432 deaths, I found myself deeply moved. This is now the second Playdate game that has evoked such a strong emotional response from me.
In Summit, you take on the role of a cloaked climber on a mission to conquer a mountain, guided by an unseen narrator who affectionately calls you “little brother.” Equipped with ice axes and other tools, you must navigate through around 70 challenging levels with utmost precision. The game is filled with sharp spikes, treacherous icy patches, and strong winds that will test your skills and patience.
