At least six individuals lost their lives and 15 others sustained injuries in an Israeli airstrike that targeted Beirut’s southern suburb of Ghobeiri, as reported by Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health.
The casualty count from the assault on Tuesday is anticipated to increase as rescue teams continue their operations at the site.
Al Jazeera correspondent Dorsa Jabbri, reporting from Beirut, highlighted that this was the third Israeli strike in that particular area since last Friday.
“Yesterday, Israel claimed to have targeted a senior Hezbollah member in an attack which ultimately failed. This series of events is unfolding amidst a heightened state of alert in the country, compounded by a significant crisis involving internally displaced persons,” she explained.
The Israeli military stated that they carried out a “precision strike in Beirut” targeting a top Hezbollah commander on Tuesday. However, Hezbollah has not confirmed whether he was killed.
