California’s Population Surge: Growth on the Rise in the Golden State

California is experiencing a resurgence in its‍ population growth after a period of decline. In 2020, the ⁤state saw a decrease⁤ in population for the first time⁤ since becoming a part of the United States in 1850. Factors ‌such as declining birth rates, reduced immigration, migration to more⁣ affordable states, and the impact of the ‌covid-19 pandemic⁤ contributed‌ to this shift, causing California to question its identity.

However,‍ recent data ‍from ⁤California’s Department of Finance, released ⁣on April 30th, brings good news. ⁣In 2023, California’s population grew by nearly 0.2%,⁣ adding approximately ‍67,000 new residents (refer ‍to the chart for details). While this may seem like a modest increase, it is equivalent to filling ‌Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles⁢ with⁣ a few thousand⁢ extra people.
