The “Conscript School” project website, which provides legal information to Russians about military service and conscripts’ rights, has been blocked in Armenia and Russia. The project’s lawyers offer guidance on military service obligations, consequences of failure to appear, and report on unlawful criminal cases and detentions.
The project announced the site’s blocking on its Telegram channel, with no reasons provided on the Roskomnadzor website. The Insider journalist in Armenia confirmed the site’s inaccessibility.
“Today our website stopped opening in Russia. It turned out that Roskomnadzor blocked it. It also stopped opening in Armenia, and Yandex removed it from their search results. We do not know the reason for the blocking, Roskomnadzor did not inform us about it. According to Roskomsvoboda, the decision to block was made by an ‘undisclosed authority.’ According to human rights defenders, the Prosecutor General’s Office is hiding under this name.
Earlier, YouTube blocked one of our videos at the request of Roskomnadzor. We see in the ongoing blocks the desire of Russian government agencies to restrict freedom of speech, our work, and deprive Russian citizens of access to independent information and legal assistance. We intend to challenge the blocking decision and also send a request to the authorities of the Republic of Armenia as to why Roskomnadzor’s decisions are being enforced on their territory.
The “Conscript School” website is still accessible using a VPN. In the near future, we will find a technical solution to this problem. We continue to inform about how to protect one’s rights and provide legal assistance.”
