Bi-2 Members Receive Moldovan Citizenship in Historic Decision

The President of Moldova, ‍Maia Sandu, has taken ‌a significant⁤ step by granting citizenship‍ to members of the ⁣renowned band “Bi-2”. This‌ decision⁢ was confirmed by Adrian Balutsel, the head of the president’s administration.

Moldova ‍prides itself on⁣ being a nation that embraces peace, fosters⁣ friendship, and upholds respect among different nations. The members ‌of ‘Bi-2’ faced persecution in Russia for speaking out against the conflict in Ukraine. Moldova stands firm in defending human rights, freedom of⁤ expression, and showing‍ solidarity with those in need,”⁢ Balutsel expressed.

While⁤ the ‍specific names of the band members who ⁤received citizenship‌ were not ⁢disclosed, a ⁢photo of the⁤ decree shared by blogger Ilya Varlamov indicates that the bass guitarist of “Bi-2,” Maxim Andryushchenko, along with his wife Irina Akimtseva and their son‌ Leonid, were among the recipients.

Following an ⁤incident in⁢ Thailand where the group faced⁤ deportation to Russia earlier this year, the band members sought Moldovan citizenship. The⁢ detention in ‌Thailand, supposedly due to lack of work permits, was believed by the musicians to ⁤be‌ linked to their anti-war stance.

Acquiring Moldovan citizenship offers numerous benefits such as visa-free travel to EU countries, extended stays of up‌ to 180 days annually, the ability to open a European bank account, and simplified processes⁤ for obtaining residency and citizenship. Additionally, holding a Moldovan passport enables eligibility for an E-2 visa to the United ⁢States.
