Belarusian Comedian Slava Komissarenko Faces Charges for Mocking Lukashenko as ‘Chyk-Chyryk

The Investigative Committee of⁣ Belarus has‍ officially launched a special investigation into the case involving‍ Belarusian comedian Vyacheslav⁣ Komissarenko, who is currently residing abroad. ⁣He stands accused of defaming Alexander Lukashenko⁤ and​ insulting him.

Rumors of ⁣a criminal defamation case against Alexander Lukashenko targeting ⁤Slava Komissarenko⁢ first surfaced in February‍ 2022. These reports‍ were initially brought⁢ to light​ by⁢ propagandist and RT⁢ employee Konstantin Pridybaylo. Prior to ⁢this, Komissarenko had his concert permits revoked in⁤ the ⁢country.

Renowned for his satirical portrayals of Lukashenko, whom he ‌humorously refers to as “Chik-Chirik”, Komissarenko faced repercussions after‌ one such parody in 2021 ⁣led​ Minsk authorities to ban his performances ‌within⁤ the city.

Komissarenko‍ is recognized‌ for denouncing violence by⁢ Belarusian security forces during ​the 2020 protests and openly criticizing the regime.⁢ Fleeing from Belarus, he later departed Russia in 2022 out of ⁤concern for potential persecution by the‌ Belarusian ⁤KGB.
