The Investigative Committee of Belarus has officially launched a special investigation into the case involving Belarusian comedian Vyacheslav Komissarenko, who is currently residing abroad. He stands accused of defaming Alexander Lukashenko and insulting him.
Rumors of a criminal defamation case against Alexander Lukashenko targeting Slava Komissarenko first surfaced in February 2022. These reports were initially brought to light by propagandist and RT employee Konstantin Pridybaylo. Prior to this, Komissarenko had his concert permits revoked in the country.
Renowned for his satirical portrayals of Lukashenko, whom he humorously refers to as “Chik-Chirik”, Komissarenko faced repercussions after one such parody in 2021 led Minsk authorities to ban his performances within the city.
Komissarenko is recognized for denouncing violence by Belarusian security forces during the 2020 protests and openly criticizing the regime. Fleeing from Belarus, he later departed Russia in 2022 out of concern for potential persecution by the Belarusian KGB.
