Dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters in Amsterdam were detained by Dutch police on Sunday for violating a ban on demonstrations following violence caused by Israeli football fans.
The Amsterdam District Court upheld the mayor’s decision to prohibit protests after recent city-wide disturbances.
Despite the ban, hundreds of demonstrators gathered at Dam Square with signs demanding their streets back and chanting “Free Palestine”.
Riot police intervened in the afternoon, arresting many protesters who were later released in different parts of the city. It is unclear if any are still in custody.
